Apple agrees to $250 million settlement over false advertising of Siri AI features
Apple on Tuesday reached a $250 million class-action settlement in California federal court over allegations that it falsely advertised AI capabilities for its Siri voice assistant. The settlement covers eligible owners of iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models purchased in the United States between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025, who would each receive between $25 and $95. Apple did not admit wrongdoing, and the agreement requires approval from U.S. District Judge Noel Wise at a hearing scheduled for June 17.
Apple filed the proposed $250 million settlement Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, resolving a consolidated class-action lawsuit centered on the company's marketing of "Enhanced Siri" features as part of its broader "Apple Intelligence" push during the launch of the iPhone 16 in 2024. If approved, it would be one of the largest settlements in Apple's history, according to the Associated Press.
The lawsuit, filed on behalf of U.S. consumers, alleged that Apple promoted Siri AI capabilities that did not yet exist, misleading buyers into purchasing devices. The court filing stated that "Enhanced Siri features … were not available on the Eligible Devices at the time of sale" and that plaintiffs "would not have purchased the Eligible Devices or would have paid significantly less, had they known Enhanced Siri features were not available." The settlement covers approximately 37 million devices, the AP reported.
Apple defended its conduct, saying its advertising accurately reflected a phased rollout and that nearly two dozen Apple Intelligence features had already been delivered. "We resolved this matter to stay focused on doing what we do best, delivering the most innovative products and services to our users," the company said in a statement. Apple also noted it had said from the outset that new capabilities would roll out over time and continue to evolve.
