Trump calls on Arab nations to join Abraham Accords as part of developing Iran agreement
President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social urging multiple Muslim-majority and Arab nations to sign the Abraham Accords in connection with a developing Iran agreement. Trump stated the move should be "mandatory" for countries participating in the deal and named Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey, and Jordan as nations he contacted. Trump also raised the possibility of Iran eventually joining the Accords.
President Trump posted on Truth Social over the weekend stating that regional nations involved in a developing Iran agreement should simultaneously sign the Abraham Accords. "I stated that, after all the work done by the United States to try and pull this very complex puzzle together, it should be mandatory that all of these Countries, at a minimum, simultaneously, sign onto the Abraham Accords," Trump wrote.
Trump said he spoke by phone with leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey, and Jordan, and that he also planned to speak with the leaders of the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain — the two nations that became the first signatories to the Accords in 2020. The Accords are a series of agreements aimed at normalizing diplomatic relations between Israel and Arab and Muslim-majority nations.
Trump went further, floating the idea that Iran itself could eventually become part of the Abraham Accords. "In speaking to numerous of the Great Leaders mentioned above, they would be honored, as soon as our Document is signed, to have the Islamic Republic of Iran as part of the Abraham Accords. Wow, now that would be something special," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
