Pam Bondi recovering from thyroid cancer treatment after departing as attorney general

Former Attorney General Pam Bondi was diagnosed with thyroid cancer shortly after leaving the Justice Department in early April. She underwent surgery a few weeks ago and is still undergoing treatment, but told CNN she is "doing well." President Trump has appointed her to the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

Bondi, 60, disclosed her thyroid cancer diagnosis and treatment publicly after the news was first reported by Axios. She had surgery weeks ago and confirmed to CNN that she is continuing treatment but recovering well. The disclosure came in the same news cycle as the announcement of her new advisory role in the Trump administration.

Trump appointed Bondi to the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, a body announced in March that is co-chaired by White House AI and crypto adviser David Sacks and science adviser Michael Kratsios, according to Fox News. Bondi is expected to help facilitate coordination between the federal government and technology executives on the panel, which provides recommendations to the president on "strengthening American leadership in science and technology," as Politico described the council's mandate.

Vice President JD Vance issued a statement praising Bondi's continued involvement with the administration. "Pam has been an enormously valuable asset to the president's team, and I'm thrilled for her and for all of us that she's going to remain involved in confronting some of the most important issues the administration faces," Vance said.
