Pam Bondi discloses thyroid cancer diagnosis and surgery weeks after leaving Justice Department

Former Attorney General Pam Bondi is recovering from thyroid cancer treatment, having undergone surgery a few weeks ago while still continuing treatment. Bondi told CNN she is "doing well." Her diagnosis became public shortly after President Trump removed her from the Justice Department in April.

Pam Bondi, who served as Attorney General until being removed by President Trump in April, disclosed that she had surgery for thyroid cancer a few weeks ago and is continuing treatment. She made the announcement in comments to CNN, saying she is "doing well."

Trump removed Bondi from the Justice Department in April, with reporting indicating he had expressed criticism that she had not moved aggressively enough to bring lawsuits against individuals he viewed as political adversaries. She had also faced bipartisan criticism over her handling of documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Despite her departure from the Justice Department, Bondi is set to remain connected to the administration. She has been named to the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, a body announced in March that is charged with providing recommendations to Trump on "strengthening American leadership in science and technology." Vice President JD Vance said in a statement that Bondi has been "an enormously valuable asset to the president's team" and expressed support for her continued involvement.
