Jill Biden says Joe Biden will live with stage 4 prostate cancer for the rest of his life and has slowed down

Former first lady Jill Biden said Saturday that former President Joe Biden, 83, will live with stage 4 prostate cancer "for the rest of his life" because the cancer has metastasized to his bones. She made the remarks during a discussion with political commentator Ana Navarro tied to Navarro's new book, "View From the East Wing: A Memoir." Biden publicly announced his cancer diagnosis in May 2025.

Speaking at an event tied to political commentator Ana Navarro's new book, "View From the East Wing: A Memoir," Jill Biden described how her husband's cancer was discovered. She said that while Joe Biden was still president, he was getting up seven times a night to use the bathroom and she assumed the medical team surrounding him would follow up. After they left the White House in 2025 and the problem persisted, she said she directed him to see a urologist.

At that first appointment, she said, the doctor told Biden "there's something there," and he was given a CAT scan. "I never imagined it would be prostate cancer," she said. "I just never imagined it." The diagnosis was confirmed as stage 4, with the cancer having spread to his bones.

Jill Biden described the treatment regimen: Biden has undergone five weeks of radiation, traveling regularly between their home in Delaware and Philadelphia, and is currently on "special medicines." She said the combination of the disease, his age, and the medications has made life "a little more difficult these days." She characterized the radiation as something that "takes a toll."
