Sen. Mitch McConnell hospitalized for undisclosed health issue, office says he is receiving excellent care

Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., was admitted to a hospital on the morning of the report for an undisclosed health issue. His office said he is "receiving excellent care," according to his Communications Director David Popp. Two neighbors told Reuters they saw McConnell on a stretcher being loaded into an ambulance around 9 a.m. ET outside his Washington, D.C. home.

McConnell's office provided no details about the nature of the health issue prompting the hospitalization. His Communications Director David Popp confirmed the admission to Fox News in a brief statement: "Sen. McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning. He is receiving excellent care."

The 84-year-old senator has experienced a series of health episodes in recent years. He was hospitalized for eight days earlier this year after experiencing flu-like symptoms, and sustained a concussion in March 2023 after falling at a Washington hotel, missing several weeks of work. That same summer he twice froze during news conferences, staring ahead before colleagues and staff came to his assistance. In December 2024, he fell and sprained his wrist walking out of a GOP luncheon. He also fell in 2019 at his Kentucky home, requiring surgery for a fractured shoulder.

McConnell has had polio since childhood and has long acknowledged difficulty walking and climbing stairs as an adult. He has intermittently used a wheelchair to navigate the Capitol and routinely travels with a security detail as a former congressional leader.
