Sen. Hawley sends criminal referral to DOJ asking for investigation of abortion-pill information group Plan C

Sen. Josh Hawley sent a letter Thursday to acting Attorney General Todd Blanche requesting that the Justice Department open a criminal investigation into an organization called Plan C. The group describes itself as a public health information campaign; Hawley characterizes it as a "left-wing dark-money operation" functioning as a "referral and logistics hub" for distributing abortion drugs into states that prohibit them.

According to the letter, as reported by Fox News, Hawley alleges Plan C connects women in states such as Florida, Oklahoma, and Texas with foreign clinics and online vendors willing to mail abortion pills into the United States despite state restrictions. He also says the group directs users to vendors selling abortion drugs without prescriptions, identification, or medical consultations, and notes that Plan C's own website acknowledges some of those sites are "not regulated or inspected by the US government."

Hawley's letter further states that Plan C advises users on limiting their "digital footprint" by recommending privacy-focused browsers, virtual private networks, and encrypted email. The senator also noted that Plan C's website warns users they could face legal consequences and states it is "up to every individual to decide what level of legal risk they are willing to take."
