Rep. Marcy Kaptur Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run Crash Near Toledo

Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) was hospitalized Sunday morning after the vehicle she was riding in was struck in a hit-and-run crash near Toledo, Ohio. Her office stated she is "active, alert, and being treated for non-life threatening injuries." Her driver, Kegan Zimmermann, was also transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:48 a.m. local time at the intersection of North Detroit and Central avenues in Toledo, according to the Toledo Police Department. Kaptur was a passenger in a vehicle on her way to a church service when a southbound vehicle came into the path of her car, causing a collision. The driver of the at-fault vehicle fled the scene.

Both vehicles were impounded as evidence was collected and processed. Toledo Police Chief Michael Troendle said he had spoken with Kaptur and was pleased to hear she was recovering. "Our investigators continue to make progress on this case," Troendle said, adding that investigators had followed "several strong leads" in working to identify the driver responsible.

In a statement posted on X, Kaptur praised the response of Toledo Police and Fire Departments for arriving promptly on scene and thanked the medical professionals treating those involved. Her office said hundreds of constituents reached out following the incident and that she "looks forward to returning to a full schedule soon."
