Colorado teacher faces review after wearing chromosome T-shirt to training event
Stacy Adair, a Colorado teacher, received a written reprimand after wearing an "XX ≠ XY" chromosome T-shirt to a professional development training session earlier this month. An anonymous complaint accused her of spreading anti-transgender messaging. A week after the event, Adair was called in, given a questionnaire about the shirt, and instructed not to wear clothing with controversial messaging going forward.

Stacy Adair, a Colorado teacher named teacher of the year at the 2025 Teacher Freedom Summit, said she wore the shirt without intent to make a political statement. "I just wear these shirts because they're facts," she said, according to Fox News. No students were present at the professional development event where the shirt was worn, and Adair said no one raised concerns with her at the time. The complaint was filed anonymously after the event.
Adair told Fox News she did not view the shirt as violating the school district's policy against apparel that is "political or disruptive to the educational environment," in part because only staff — not students — were present. After being called in by administrators, she said she fears the review is the beginning of increased scrutiny of her work.
Adair said her concern stems partly from her history with the local teachers union. In 2021, she said she helped campaign against two union-backed school board members; after they were voted out, the board allowed the district's contract with the teachers union to lapse by not renewing it. She described the contract as having allowed the union to exert significant control over district administration. Since then, she said she has felt targeted, citing a threatening email she received from a local resident after she spoke out against the union publicly, which prompted a police report through district security.
