Rep. Crockett Says She Will Not Campaign for Talarico in Texas Senate Race Against Paxton
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) said on CNN's Laura Coates Live that she does not plan to campaign for Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, who is running against Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton. Crockett said she intends to focus on downballot candidates who "maybe are getting overshadowed." Talarico defeated Crockett by 6 points in the Democratic Senate primary earlier this year.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett told CNN's Laura Coates Live this week that she will not be hitting the campaign trail for James Talarico, the Democratic nominee challenging Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for the U.S. Senate. When asked directly whether she would appear with Talarico, Crockett said, "I will be campaigning downballot," and described her focus as "amplifying" candidates she said may be getting less attention.
Crockett also said during the interview that she did not "think that there is excitement" from Black voters in Texas this election cycle, a remark that came alongside her broader call for Democrats to motivate turnout across the state on Election Day.
The decision not to campaign for Talarico follows their contested primary earlier this year, which Talarico won by 6 points. According to the Washington Examiner, Crockett has since described that primary as a "racist race," a characterization she has repeated publicly since her loss.
